The announcement leaked a little earlier, but now it’s official. Dragon Ball Super Movie 2 is officially underway and will be released in 2022. The announcement came appropriately on Goku Day, May 9th, as the date includes the characters for “Go” and “Ku” in Japanese.

Unfortunately, if you were hoping for details of the plot, the announcement was rather sparse. Only one year of release has been confirmed by Toei Animation and Dragon ball Creator Akira Toriyama. We know, however, that Toriyama’s engagement will be tough once he directs the film.

This is the second film for Dragon Ball Super, this is the very successful sequel to Dragon Ball Z. The first film was Dragon Ball Super: Brolydirected by Tatsuya Nagamine and also written by Akira Toriyama. The film is set after the events of the Universe Survival saga and shows Goku and Vegeta battling Broly.
