Alabama Shakes drummer Steven William Johnson was arrested from Huntsville earlier this week for multiple child abuse in Limestone County, Alabama, according to WHNT. A grand jury sued him for “willful torture, willful abuse and cruel beating or other willful mistreatment of a child under the age of 18”. His indictment is scheduled for April 7, 2021.

In March of last year, Johnson pleaded guilty to violating a domestic violence ordinance in 2019 in March of last year, according to WHNT. He is a founding member of Alabama Shakes and played with both Boys & Girls 2012 and Sound & Color 2015. The group took a break in 2018 when front person Brittany Howard turned her focus to solo work. Pitchfork has reached out to Alabama Shakes representatives for comment.
