Hellsing: Amazon & John Wick Writer Adaptation of Japanese manga in film

According to Deadline, Amazon Studios is in the process of developing a live-action film adaptation of Hellsing, based on Kouta Hirano’s popular action horror manga of the same name. John Wick Writer Derek Kolstad officially signed the project to produce the adaptation.

“Ever since my brother introduced me to the Hellsing manga and anime a few years ago, I’ve been obsessed with adapting it.” Said Kolstad. “And when Mike Callaghan and his team managed to secure the rights and then pair up with Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Amazon, I mean – damn it, dude – that’s a dream.”

The Hellsing Film is the latest addition to Kolstad’s growing list of projects, including the highly anticipated fourth installment of John Wick;; The man from nowhere English remake; My friend Pedro Series; and Constantin Films’ adaptation of the Just cause Video game. His next writing projects are the upcoming MCU series The falcon and the winter soldierand Universal’s action thriller Nobody both to be released this month.

Hellsing was written and illustrated by Kouta Hirano. It tells a reinterpreted story of Dracula that involved Alucard, a special agent tied to The Hellsing Organization for their mission to protect England and under the direction of Integra Hellsing, the great-granddaughter of Abraham Van Hellsing support the world with vampires, ghouls, and other supernatural threats. The manga also focuses on Hellsing’s newest recruit, an ex-cop named Seras Victoria.

The original manga series was first published from 1997 to 2008 in Shōnen Gahōsha’s Japanese manga magazine Young King OURS. It was later licensed by Dark Horse Comics for English language publication. Hirano had also released a prequel manga series called Hellsing The dawn The manga was also adapted into a 10-part anime series by Gonzo that aired from 2001 to 2002.
