The original film is an original film inspired by the life of paleontologist Mary Anning that took audiences to the English seaside town of Lyme Regis in the 1840s – a business for tourists who sell their various fossil finds and care for their elderly mother (Gemma Jones ) To take care of. Their routine is interrupted, however, when a tourist fascinated by paleontology named Roderick Murchison (James McArdle) comes into town and offers money for the opportunity to watch their work before setting off on their own expedition. With him is his young, sick wife Charlotte (Saoirse Ronan), for whom doctors have recommended a trip to the coast in the hope that the sea air can cure their melancholy.
