Arca has released a new four-track release called Madre. The Barcelona-based producer worked with radiohead contributor Oliver Coates on the project’s title track. Listen to the new collection billed as a maxi single below and watch the video of the title track.
Last year Arca released a new 62 minute piece called @@@@@ and followed it up over the summer with the new album KiCk i. After the tour of the MUTANTS VOL. 2: RIOT compilation in September, she released 100 new remixes of her KiCk i track “Riquiquí” last month.
Arca shared a brief statement about working with Coates on Madre:
Years ago I wrote “Madre” and played “Madreviolo” myself before working with Oliver. After I recorded “Madreviolo” I destroyed the cello that I bought specifically for it. It had to be a one-off for the version where I put my vote on the neuter register. But the original version, with my unprocessed vocals, which was a necessary version for Madreviolo, needed an arrangement that I could imagine but not hear. When I gave Oliver the a cappella version there was an insane response and chemistry; Where he went it felt like the place I dreamed of but couldn’t get to without him.
