Barack & Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground Reveals New Netflix Projects
After signing an initial deal with the streamer in 2018 and partnering on three prestigious projects, Barack and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground Productions has unveiled a list of six new projects in development at Netflix, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The full list of projects at various stages of development is as follows:
- Daughter of the firefighter: Based on Angeline Boulley’s upcoming debut novel, the YA series will follow an 18-year-old local girl who is reluctantly covered up during a police investigation into her Ojibwe reservation. Mars and ReveriesMickey Fisher will serve as the showrunner on the series, co-writing with Wenonah Wilms, who shares the ojibwe legacy that is similar to Boulley. Fisher and Wilms will also produce executive productions.
- West exit: A film adaptation of Mohsin Hamid’s acclaimed novel, first announced in March 2020, starring Riz Ahmed (Sound of metal) on Star and Yann Demange (White boy Rick) attached to the rudder.
- Great national parks: A Natural History Series from Wild Space Productions and Blue Planet II Veterinarian James Honeyborne explores some of the most impressive national parks and wilderness areas in the world.
- Tenzing: Based on the life of Tenzing Norgay, the man alongside Sir Edmund Hillary was the first to reach the top of the mountain. Everest will make her directorial debut in a screenplay by Luke Davies with documentary filmmaker Jennifer Peedom, an expert on life on Everest (Lion, catch-22).
- satellite: Plot details are not currently known, but the film is described as a science fiction feature film starring Ola Shokunbi Writig and Rian Johnson and Ram Bergman’s T Street, with Kiri Hart and Stephan Feder producing for the banner.
- The young woman: Written and directed by Selah and the spades‘Tayarisha Poe, the story revolves around 29-year-old Celestina on her first wedding day – or not exactly a wedding, but a party where she feels out of sync.
