Black Midi are back. The experimental British band have announced their second album, Cavalcade (released May 28 through Rough Trade) and the music video for the lead single “John L.” released. The video was shot by choreographer and creative director Nina McNeely, whose previous projects include Rihanna’s “Sledgehammer” visual and Gaspar Noés Climax. Check out the “John L” video below.
According to a press release, the foundation stone for Cavalcade was laid in late 2019 after Black Midi released their debut in Schlagenheim. Half of the album was written by individual members of the band at home before they brought it to each other during rehearsals. As the band discovered earlier this year, guitarist / founding member Matt Kwasniewski-Kelvin stepped down from the group to take care of his sanity and is now absent from Cavalcade. Black Midi recruited two new members to play on the record: saxophonist Kaidi Akinnibi and keyboardist Seth Evans.
