Bruce Springsteen and former President Barack Obama publish a book based on their podcast conversations. Renegades: Born in the USA will be released on October 26th in an oversized, illustrated format with handwritten Springsteen texts, commented Obama speeches and other archival material. On the opening pages of the book, Obama writes: “Over the years we have found that we have a common sensibility. About work, family and America. Bruce and I have traveled in parallel in our own way to understand this country that has given us both so much. Trying to record the stories of its people. Looking for a way to connect our own individual search for meaning, truth and community with the greater history of America. “
Springsteen adds, “There has been serious talk about the fate of the country, the fortunes of its citizens, and the destructive, ugly, corrupt forces that want to destroy everything. This is a time of vigilance when we are being seriously tested. Hard discussions about who we are and who we want to become can perhaps serve as a small guide for some of our fellow citizens…. This is a time to think seriously about who we want to be and what kind of country we will leave our children with. Will we let the best of us slip through our hands or will we face the fire together? You will not find the answers to these questions in this book, but you will find some seekers who do their best to get us to ask better questions. “
The 320-page book is published worldwide by Penguin Random House in association with Higher Ground.
Springsteen’s latest album, Letter to You, was released in late October. He will be giving a concert in Central Park with Paul Simon. For the past year he’s worked with the Killers, Bleachers, Bon Iver, and of course, Obama.
