Cher announced that a new feature film about her life and career is in the works. She posted the news tonight (May 19) in a tweet that happened to be the night before her 75th birthday. The as-yet-untitled film will arrive through Universal Pictures. Cher will co-produce with Judy Craymer and Gary Goetzman – the production duo who made the film adaptation of Mamma Mia! (which of course Cher played).
“Gary and I are excited to be working with Cher again, this time bringing her powerful and real Odyssey to the big screen,” said Craymer in a press release. “You can’t help but be drawn to and inspired by Cher’s larger-than-life talent, steadfastness, unique wit, warmth and vision. Her unprecedented success in music film and television has inspired generations. We couldn’t be happier telling her story to the cinema audience. “
The screenplay for the film is written by Eric Roth (Munich, Forrest Gump, A Star Is Born). Roth previously worked with Cher on the 1987 thriller Suspect.
