Universal Pictures is in the process of developing an untitled autobiographical film centering around the life and career of Grammy-winning and Oscar-winning actress Cher (Moonstruck). The project comes from Mamma Mia! Producer Judy Craymer and Playtones Gary Goetzman.

“Gary and I are very excited to be working with Cher again and this time bringing her powerful and real Odyssey to the screen,” Craymer said in a statement (via Deadline). “You can’t help but be drawn to and inspired by Cher’s larger-than-life talent, steadfastness, unique wit, warmth and vision,” said Craymer. “Her unprecedented success in music film and television has inspired generations. We couldn’t be happier telling her story to the cinema audience. “

The legendary diva, who turns 75 today, took to Twitter to endorse the project. She revealed that award-winning writer and dear friend Eric Roth has been added to the Cher biopic.

Cher was first recognized as part of the folk-rock duo with then-husband Sonny Bono named Sonny & Cher in 1965. The duo’s big break came with their single “I Got You Babe”, which topped the charts and became one of the best-selling hits of the 1960s. After their success, they became television stars with their variety show The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour With that, Cher’s rise to become a fashion icon began. Despite its popularity, the show only aired three seasons from 1971 to 1974 as it was canceled due to the couple’s divorce.

After their split, Cher’s career as a soloist and actress flourished with her singles “Gypsys, Tramps & Things” and “Half-Breed” as well as her acclaimed appearances in Silk wood, Mask and the Witches of Eastwick, and Moonstruck. The latter had earned her an Oscar for best actress. After selling more than 100 million records, hit singles, sold out concerts and later critically acclaimed films, Cher has cemented her A-list status in the music and film industry and is considered one of the greatest artists of all time.
