Director Wayne Che Yip joins Amazon’s Lord of the Rings television series
Amazon Studios announced today that British Chinese director Wayne Che Yip has joined the creative team on its Amazon Original Lord of the Rings TV series as a director and co-executive producer.

Yip joins the international ensemble currently being filmed in New Zealand to direct four episodes. He continues the work of the Spanish filmmaker JA Bayona, who directed the first two episodes of the series.
Yip is best known for directing popular genre content, including Hunter, preacher, Utopia (Channel 4) and Doctor Whoand recently filmed episodes of Amazon Studios’ upcoming epic fantasy series The wheel of time.

The upcoming series from Amazon Studios brings the hero legends of the fabled second age of Middle-earth history to screens for the first time. This epic drama takes place thousands of years before the events of JRR Tolkien The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble of familiar and new characters who grapple with the long-feared reappearance of evil after Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains to the majestic forests of the elven capital Lindon, the breathtaking island realm of Númenor to the most distant parts of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that will live on long after they’re gone.
As previously announced, the series will be directed by showrunners and executive producers JD Payne & Patrick McKay. Joined by executive producers Lindsey Weber, Callum Greene, JA Bayona, Belén Atienza, Justin Doble, Jason Cahill, Gennifer Hutchison, Bruce Richmond and Sharon Tal Yguado, co-executive producer Wayne Che Yip and producer Christopher Newman.
