The short film comes from the eleven-year-old Disney animation veteran and director Zach Parrish and is set in a pulsating city that pulsates with rhythm and movement. The focus is on an older man and his young-at-heart wife who revive their youthful passion for life and each other for a magical night. Years go by as the joy of dancing propels them through the exciting cityscape of their youth, reviving fond memories and ambitions. We’ll be back is told without any dialogue and is based on an original funk and soul music score that is reminiscent of the mid-1960s.
The short film is directed by Brad Simonsen (Great Hero 6) and Executive, produced by Jennifer Lee, Chief Creative Officer of Walt Disney Animation Studios, and with music by Pinar Toprak (Captain Marvel) and choreography by the winners Keone and Mari (World of dance).
“Work with Keone and Mari was key to making this movie work, ”Parrish said in a statement. “I knew from the start that I wanted this film to be music driven. And I felt that dance is a universal language that can be translated into any culture. I loved that their dance style felt like animation and that there was this real, honest, and organic connection between them because they were actually a married couple in real life. The story itself was inspired by my own grandparents who faced aging in different ways, along with my own physical limitations in exercising that result from aging and injuries. I started thinking about how someone could see the world differently when things change and they get older. “
“One of my priorities was to bring back animated shorts and give the artists in our studio the chance to discover new ideas,” Lee added in a statement. “We’ll be back has so much spirit and energy and pushes the boundaries of our short storytelling. “
After his movie debut We’ll be back will premiere on Disney + in June.

Long ago, humans and dragons lived together in harmony in the fantasy world of Kumandra. But when an evil force threatened the land, the dragons sacrificed themselves to save humanity. Now, 500 years later, the same evil has returned and it is up to a lone warrior, Raya, to track down the legendary last dragon to restore the broken land and its divided people. On her journey, however, she will learn that it takes more than a dragon to save the world – it will also require trust and teamwork.
Raya and the last dragon is directed by Kelly Marie Tran (Star Wars: The Last Jedi), who will be the first Southeast Asian to direct a Disney animated film. The title role should originally be from Cassie Steele (Rick and Morty), but the filmmakers and studio decided to adapt their vision and bring on Tran as the lead actor, who will join the previously cast Awkwafina (The good bye), who stars as a dragon in human form named Sisu.
In addition to Tran and Awkwafina, Gemma Chan (Captain Marvel) as Raya’s archenemy Namaari; Daniel Dae Kim (Hell boy) as Raya’s visionary father Benja; Sandra Oh (Kill Eve) as Namaari’s mighty mother Virana; Benedict Wong (Doctor strange) as Tong, a formidable giant; Izaac Wang as Boun, a 10 year old entrepreneur; Thalia Tran as the mischievous toddler Little Noi; Alan Tudyk (Harley Quinn) as Tuk Tuk, Raya’s best friend and loyal steed; Lucille Soong (Degrees off the boat) as Dang Hu, the leader of the land of Talon; Patti Harrison (Shrill) as chief of the tail country; and Ross Butler (To all the boys: PS I still love you) as chief of the spinal land.
