DC has announced that its next DC animated film will be about the hugely popular fighting game Injustice: Gods Among Us, with a film adaptation on the way.

Based on the fans’ favorite game and the comic book series that continues the story, Injustice: Gods Among Us will adapt the story to a dark alternate timeline in the DC Universe. A taste of the film will be available for the upcoming home release Batman: The Long Halloween, Part Two. No further information for the film was released. So expect more from DC in the future.

After the murder of the Joker, Superman continues to execute criminals as he becomes more and more corrupt. Five years later, Superman formed the One Earth regime to enforce global peace, but many of DC’s most famous superheroes, led by Batman, have come together to oppose the regime.

In a tweet pointing to the news, Ed Boon, the director of the original game, tweeted a screenshot showing the word “injustice” on social media.

Launched in 2013, Injustice: Gods Among Us tells the story of a parallel universe in which the Joker causes Superman to kill his pregnant wife Lois Lane and detonate a nuclear weapon that destroys Metropolis and kills five million people.
