The nominations for the 2021 Golden Globe Awards have been announced. In the Best Score Motion Picture category, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross were nominated twice for their work on Mank and Soul, the latter with Jon Baptiste. For their roles in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, Viola Davis and Chadwick Boseman were nominated for Best Actor / Actor in a Motion Picture Drama. Riz Ahmed was nominated for Sound of Metal in Best Actor – Drama Film.
Other nominees in the Best Score Motion Picture category are Alexandre Desplat (The Midnight Sky), Ludwig Göransson (Tenet) and James Newton Howard (News of the World). The nominees in the “Best Song Motion Picture” category were for songs from the USA against Billie Holiday (“Tigress & Tweed”), Judas and the Black Messiah (“Fight for You”), The Trial of the Chicago 7 (“Hear My “) Voice”), The Life Ahead (“Io Sì (seen)”), One Night in Miami … (“Speak Now”). Kate Hudson took a nod (Best Actress – Film – Musical / Comedy) for her role in Sias Film’s Music. The full list is available on the Golden Globes website.
This year’s Golden Globes will take place on February 28th – originally planned for January but postponed due to COVID-19 – and will be moderated by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. They will be broadcast live from the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California, 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern on NBC.
Elton John and his songwriting partner Bernie Taupin won the Golden Globe for Best Original Song last year, while Taron Egerton won Best Actor in a Movie – Musical or Comedy for his appearance in Rocketman. Hildur Guðnadóttir was recognized as best original score for her work on Joker.
