HBO Max has ordered the limited series Love and death with Elizabeth Olsen (WandaVision) as real Texas killer Candy Montgomery. It is based on the book Proof of Love: A true story of passion and death in the suburbs by Jim Atkinson and Joe Bob Briggs; and articles from Texas Monthly. The logline for the series is, “Two couples who go to church enjoying family life in a small Texas town until someone picks up an ax.”

HBO Max Original Content Director Sarah Aubrey loved the series order. “This is a compelling story about the frustrations and desires of two women in a small town that culminated in a terrible act of violence,” said Aubrey. “We are very excited to partner with David, Lesli, Nicole and Per and are incredibly lucky to have Elizabeth at the center of our story to bring out all of the layers of candy that make this story so memorable.”
The series is directed by David E. Kelley (The undo) and directed by Lesli Linka Glatter (Mad Men), who will both also act as executive producers. Lionsgate will produce the limited series. Executive producers include Nicole Kidman and Per Saari through Blossom Films, Scott Brown and Megan Creydt through Texas Monthly, Matthew Tinker, Michael Klick and Helen Verno.

Interestingly, Elisabeth Moss will portray the same ax killer in an upcoming series called Sweets by Universal Content Productions.
