Sparks shared a new song with vocals by Adam Driver, Marion Cotillard and Simon Helberg. “So May We Start” comes from the upcoming film Annette, written by Sparks. Listen to “So May We Start” below, and also watch the previously released trailer for Annette.
Annette is directed by Leos Carax, who wrote the script with Sparks’ Ron and Russell Mael. The film contains original music by the band. Annette will open the 74th annual Cannes Film Festival, followed by a theatrical release on August 6th. It hits Amazon Prime August 20th.
“At first we designed Annette as another Sparks album,” Sparks said in a press release. They continued:
This time, however, it would be a narrative story that would consist of three main characters, an ensemble that would be small enough to present the “opera” live on tour. The music, the story, and the album were done and ready to go, where the story takes a big detour. After meeting Leos in Cannes, we felt really related and thought we’d send him Annette without expecting anything other than showing him what Sparks was up to. Lo and behold, he said he really liked the album and would like to consider it his next project. We were happily surprised and enthusiastic about his reaction. As fans of Leos’ films, it was beyond our dreams to realize now that he was going to direct one of our films.
