All five of J. Cole’s studio LPs have been awarded platinum by the RIAA. The final three – Forest Hills Drive 2014, 4 Your Eyez Only, and KOD – are known to be “platinum with no features.” On a 2019 feature with Allison P. Davis for GQ, Cole commented on the meme phrase, “I loved him,” he said. “I said, ‘Open up – that’s funny as hell.’ But the second or third time I said, “All right, now it’s almost embarrassing.” For example, “All right man, you’re going to get me to put a feature on the album just so this shit can stop. “
In the time since KOD, J. Cole has also provided his own flurry of guest verse. To name a few, Cole has starred in Gang Starr’s “Family and Loyalty”, Ty Dolla $ igns “Purple Emoji”, Young Thugs “The London” and 21 Savages “a lot”, for which the rappers received the 2020 Grammy Award Best rap song.
Then, in 2019, J. Cole and Dreamville released Revenge of The Dreamers III. The following year he shared the singles “The Climb Back” (released in the off-season), “Lion King on Ice” and “Snow on tha Bluff”.
In other news from J. Cole, the rapper reportedly signs with the Patriots Basketball Club to play for the Rwandan team in the opening season of the Basketball Africa League. The Patriots will play their first BAL game against the Nigerian team Rivers Hoopers this Sunday May 16. Cole played basketball at Terry Sanford High School in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He formed the team at St. John’s University but focused on his education and music. Two of his early mixtapes, The Warm Up and Friday Night Lights, had covers on a basketball theme.
