Speaking to Collider’s Steve Weintraub about the upcoming film, Gunn noted that the script for the film has been almost finished for several years and that all that remains is a small cut.
“It’s basically been done for years,” said Gunn. “I keep fiddling with different things and adding things and figuring out permutations and all – I’m in the process of doing another design – but it’s really small compared to what it was before. It has basically been done for three years. “
While the Marvel Cinematic Universe has seen some big changes between the years Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Gunn said that he never really felt any pressure from Marvel to include things that he might not want. That is, except for one very specific thing.
“The only time she ever [asked me to include something for future MCU movies] was on the first film with Thanos who put Thanos in what they wanted me to do. But apart from that, they have never done that before. I have to watch out for things that happen, that they talked to me about – the things with Gamora and all. I know the characters went through certain things so I have to deal with that. But most of the time they never asked me if I should write anything in the script Volume 3 to set something up in the future. I wouldn’t do it either, to be honest, it’s not really my thing. “

Details of the plot of the third part are still under wraps, but it may be about the team’s search for the missing Gamora, which went abruptly after Thanos was finally defeated. Gunn also previously confirmed that Bradley Cooper’s Rocket will play a huge role in the upcoming Threequel.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is currently set for a theatrical release in 2023.
