Based on Jean-Xavier de Lestrade’s documentaries on true crimes and various books and accounts of the case, the limited edition series examines the life of Michael Peterson, his extended family in North Carolina, and the suspicious death of his wife, Kathleen Peterson. In 2001, Peterson was arrested for the murder of his second wife after claiming she died after falling down the stairs in her home for consuming alcohol and valium. However, the autopsy report rejects Peterson’s claims, as it concluded that she died from multiple injuries, including being hit on the back of the head with a blunt object.

Binoche’s character is currently unknown. Deadline reports that it will be kept under lock and key for the time being. The star-studded cast continues to grow, however, and it looks like HBO is hoping this will be another in a long line of hit dramas that reaches massive levels of success.
