Kim Kardashian West filed for divorce from Kanye West, TMZ, and The Associated Press. According to TMZ, the divorce is “as consensual as a divorce can be”. Pitchfork reached out to representatives from Kanye West and the firm of Kim Kardashian’s attorney Laura Wasser.
In July 2020, West proposed divorce in a troubling series of tweets referencing, among other things, Kardashian’s meeting with Meek Mill in 2018 at a criminal justice reform summit and her efforts to “lock him up”.
Shortly thereafter, Kardashian issued a West Mental Health Statement: “As many of you know, Kanye has bipolar disorder. Anyone who has this or has a loved one in their life knows how incredibly complicated and painful it is to understand. “She continued,” I ask the media and the public to give us the compassion and empathy necessary to make us get through this. ”
The couple, who met in the mid-2000s, began dating in 2012 and became engaged in October 2013. They married in May 2014 during a star-studded ceremony in Florence. Together they have four children: North, Saint, Chicago and Psalm. They have also launched a children’s clothing line, participated in Family Feud, starred in Kanye West’s “Bound 2” video and appeared on numerous episodes of Keeping Up With the Kardashians.
