Kanye West has officially requested to change its name to Ye. Born Kanye Omari West filed the legal filing for the mononym on Tuesday (Aug. 24), TMZ reports. Pitchfork has asked its representatives for a comment.
Kanye hinted at his name change plans in a 2018 tweet: “The being officially known as Kanye West. I’m YE. “
The rapper’s name change comes as part of the preparations for his third audio event for Donda, his much-delayed successor to Jesus Is King. He is currently in the process of rebuilding his childhood home in Chicago’s Soldier Field ahead of Thursday’s event, after two more editions in Atlanta. In addition to the arena livestreams, he has teased new songs titled “Glory” and “No Child Left Behind” in advertisements for Beats By Dre.
