Kele Okereke has announced a new solo album, The Waves Pt. 1. The follow-up to 2042 from 2019 will be published on May 28th via its own imprint KOLA Records and! K7. It was recorded under lockdown, written and produced entirely by the block party’s front man. Check out the new single below – a cover of Bronski Beat’s “Smalltown Boy” – and also check out the cover artwork and tracklist.

“When I make records it’s usually an ensemble thing, usually there are a lot of other musicians and singers I work with, but since we were in lockdown, I didn’t have the luxury of being able to work with other musicians,” wrote Kele in a press release. “I knew I had to fill the space on this record all by myself, which was daunting but also very liberating. This album is literally the sound of me. “
