Sino-Canadian pop star and actor Kris Wu was arrested in Beijing on suspicion of rape, reports The New York Times and The Guardian. The development comes weeks after a teenage college student accused Wu of pressuring her to drink alcohol, causing her to lose consciousness and wake up in his bed the next day, according to BBC News. The student also accused Wu of treating several young women in a similar way.

The New York Times reports that the Beijing Police Department is detaining Wu District in Chaoyang District while the department is investigating allegations that he “repeatedly seduced young women into sexual relations.”

Kris Wu, a former member of the K-pop band Exo and a hugely popular artist in China, saw massive online outcry over the allegations, which saw leading brands like Louis Vuitton, Bulgari, Porsche and L’Oréal dropping out to end the connection with him. In posts on the Chinese social media platform Weibo, Wu denied the student’s allegations.
