The legendary actor and activist Ed Asner has died. Asner, 91, died Sunday morning and is believed to have been surrounded by his family.

Asner is best known for starring the character of Lou Grant in The Mary Tyler Moore Show. The character was so popular that he called a spin-off series. received Lou Grant. His portrayal of Grant earned him five Emmy wins, and he received two other Emmy wins (for the miniseries) during his career.
