Lil Nas X released his first new song of 2021, “Montero (Call Me By Your Name),” and it comes with a wild new music video. It shows Eva floating around with the snake, a pole dancer who seduces the devil, and a prisoner who is tied up by people in Regency-era wigs. Almost everyone who has just been described there is portrayed in the picture of Lil Nas X. Check out the video directed by Lil Nas X and Tanu Muino and see the single’s artwork below.
The song was produced by Take A Daytrip, Omer Fedi and Roy Enzo. Lil Nas X shared the following statement about the video he directed himself at the age of 14.
Dear 14 year old Montero, I wrote a song with our name on it. It’s about a man I met last summer. I know we promised never to come out in public. I know we promised never to be “that” type of gay person. I know we promised to die with the secret, but this will open doors for many other queer people to just exist. You see, this is very scary for me, people will be angry, they will say I am pushing for an agenda. But the truth is I am The agenda to get people to stay out of the lives of others and stop dictating who they should be. I am sending you love from the future.
“MONNTERO” is Lil Nas X’s first single since “HOLIDAY” last year. Lil Nas X has announced that its debut album will be released this year. “I think people should know that 2021 will be a hell of a good year for me,” he told Complex late last year. “Not just musically, but in every way.” In early 2021, his hit “Old Town Road” went platinum for the 14th time and broke an RIAA record.
