Mac Miller’s 2014 Mixtape Faces is coming to streaming services and will be released on vinyl next month. The mixtape that Miller released for Mother’s Day 2014 for free will be available for streaming on October 15th. There is a new music video for “Colors and Shapes” ahead of the re-release. It is staged by Sam Mason and shows a dog making its way through surreal dimensions and worlds. Watch down below.
As for the video, Mason said in a statement:
The track felt very visual to me – like it had its own world. This atmospheric nocturnal place that was sometimes dangerous, sometimes comforting, then I saw a picture of [Mac Miller’s dog] Ralph and a story emerged. To build it up, I asked Malcolm’s family to send me pieces from his childhood, scenes from the city he grew up in, objects, toys from his room – little pieces of his life that I extrapolated and for inspiration History used. In the abstract it should be a video about childhood – growing up as an artist and the ups and downs of this experience. It’s kind of a look at the emotional and difficult and dangerous but noble path of an artist.
Faces featured guest posts from Earl Sweatshirt, Sir Michael Rocks of the Cool Kids, Vince Staples, and others. The mixtape was created between Mac Miller’s second LP Watching Movies With The Sound Off and his 2015 album GO: OD AM.
