Mdou Moctar has shared the video for the title track of his upcoming LP Afrique Victime, due out May 21 via Matador. The video was filmed in Niamey, Niger, in November, amid a short series of impromptu performances. Check it out below.
“‘Afrique Victime’ is a message to all countries with money and power that are coming to Africa and killing the leaders who are trying to empower people and lead revolutions,” Moctar said in a press release. He continued:
This puts the area at risk and instability and encourages the terrorists and it is the people who suffer and have no justice. Africa is innocent. The French use our uranium, but 90% of the people here have no electricity. Imagine.
“Afrique Victime” is the third offering on the album after “Tala Tannam” and “Chismiten”. Moctar’s last album was Ilana (The Creator) in 2019.
