Apple announced at WWDC 2019 in early June that it would update the categorization of podcasts. with the aim of making podcasts easier to find. Until today it is hasn’t been confirmed exactly when these new categories will appear in Apple Podcasts. However, we wanted to summarize exactly what we know and see what you need to do now to meet the new categories.
What changes have Apple Podcasts made? Well many! As far as we know True Crime is added as an entirely new category, Games & Hobbies will be renamed Leisure, History will be a separate category and Tons of subcategories are added – For example, each sport will have its own channel. This will give you a chance to become familiar with the classification of your podcast.
To make sure your podcast is always categorized correctly, we recommend in the coming days and weeks Check that the category you previously selected for your podcast in Apple Podcasts is still available and / or most relevant. New categories, as soon as they appear, are available immediately on Spreaker. We have worked hard in the last few weeks to implement the new system as quickly as possible so that you can use the new categories immediately. The categories will appear across the Apple Podcasts ecosystem later this summer.
To check your current podcast category and customize your RSS feed, you need to Go to your podcast settings in the Spreaker CMS. You can refer with Apple’s current categories to make sure the right listeners find you.
