Foo Fighters took the stage at the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards tonight to perform “Learn to Fly” and “Everlong” as well as their Medicine at Midnight single “Shame Shame”. “Charlie RIP” was written on drums by Taylor Hawkins in homage to the late Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts. After the performance, Dave Grohl gave a short speech to receive the US Global Icon Award. Watch down below.
MTV selected Foo Fighters for their new US Global Icon Award because of the “unparalleled career of the band and the continued influence and influence that have maintained a unique global success in music and beyond,” the company said in a previous press release. The award is based on the annual MTV Europe Music Award for Global Icon.
In addition, Foo Fighters are nominated in three other categories at this year’s VMAs: Best Rock, Best Choreography and Best Cinematography, all for their video for “Shame Shame”.
