Netflix has announced that British actor Rupert Evans (The man in the high castle, Fascinated) has been won for a key role in the upcoming second season of Shonda Rhimes’ hit romance drama Bridgerton. Evans will play the role of Edmund Bridgerton, the late patriarch of the eponymous noble family. Edmund is described as a loving and devoted husband whose true love affair with Violet Bridgerton brought them eight perfect children. He is also an infinitely patient and kind father who takes special pride in leading his eldest son, Anthony, through life.
It was discovered in the first season that Edmund died at the age of 38, leaving his eight children in the care of his wife Violet. His untimely death also meant that the then 18-year-old Anthony took over the role of his late father as Viscount.

Bridgerton Season 2 is based on the second book of Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton novels, entitled The Viscount who loved me The focus is on the pursuit of a suitable marriage for Bridgerton’s eldest sibling, Anthony, portrayed by Jonathan Bailey.
