Sharon Van Etten has announced the Epic Ten – a double album celebrating her LP epic in 2010. The double album contains the original recording and an LP with covers with Fiona Apple, Lucinda Williams, Big Red Machine, Courtney Barnett and Vagabon and more. Today (March 4th) Van Etten released Justin Vernon and Aaron Dessner’s cover of “A Crime”. Check it out below and scroll down for the full track listing.
“Sharon is one of my favorite songwriters and I have been very fortunate to have worked with her many times over the years,” Dessner said in a press release. “More than 10 years after we and my brother Bryce shared ‘Love More’ at MusicNOW with my brother Bryce on MusicNOW, and pondered all of our shared memories, it felt like the circle was coming full circle. It is an honor to pay tribute to Sharon and her incredible songs. We felt like the door was about to fall off the hinges of this version, and I think it sounds like it. “
Epic Ten will be released digitally on April 16 and physically on June 11 via Ba Da Bing. Every Thursday before the Epic Ten release, Van Etten will share the album’s next cover song.
Van Etten has also announced the Epic Ten: the documentary and concert that will benefit the Zebulon venue in Los Angeles. The film, which runs on April 16-17, shows Van Etten and her band performing epically in their entirety in Zebulon.
“Epic is a crossroads for me as an artist,” Van Etten said in press releases. She continued:
From intern to artist at Ba Da Bing, from solo folk singer to play with a band for the first time and start doing shows on tour with people showing up. I am in awe of the artists who wanted to take part in the celebration of my anniversary and my reissue, from young inspiring musicians to artists who took me under their wing, who I met on tour, to artists that I have become have looked up since childhood a teenager. Each of these artists continue to influence my writing and instill a sense of camaraderie in this new era of music sharing.
