Superman Reboot in development at WB with Ta-Nehisi Coates Writing and JJ Abrams Producing

Shadow and Act reports that a Superman A restart is in the works at Warner Bros. and DC. Writer Ta-Nehisi Coates is writing the script and Emmy winner JJ Abrams (Lost, Westworld, war of stars Franchise) produces the project through his production company Bad Robot.

No details about the plot or talent were released. Hannah Minghella will be the producer on the currently unnamed feature.

“It’s an honor to be invited to the DC Extended Universe by Warner Bros., DC Films and Bad Robot,” Coates told the outlet. “I look forward to meaningfully adding to the legacy of America’s most famous mythical hero.”

“There is another new, powerful, and moving Superman story that has yet to be told. We couldn’t be more excited to be working with the brilliant Mr. Coates to bring this story to screen, and we are extremely grateful to the Warner Bros. team for the opportunity, ”added Abrams.

Coates is also working on Ryan Coogler’s drama Wrong answerwith Michael B. Jordan, and based on Rachel Aviv’s 2014 story in The New Yorker, about 11 Atlanta public school educators convicted of extortion to falsely improve standardized test scores.

As the national correspondent for The Atlantic, Coates dealt with cultural, social and political issues, particularly those of African Americans and white supremacy. He has written for The Village Voice, TIME, and contributed to the New York Times Magazine, Washington Post, and more. His non-fiction books include The beautiful fight, Between the world and me, and We were in power for eight years: an American tragedy. Between the world and me won the National Book Award 2015 for non-fiction. Coates wrote one too Black Panther and a Captain America Series for Marvel Comics. Coates received a special thank you Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and Black Panther.

Bad Robot signed an exclusive contract with Warner Bros. in 2019 and is developing that too Justice League Dark Universe for film and television. The Justice League Dark comics team made their debut in 2011 during DC’s New 52 release initiative. The paranormal-oriented super team featured John Constantine, Swamp Thing, Zatanna, Frankenstein, Deadman and Madame Xanadu, among others. and The Phantom Stranger in its ranks. Before Liman’s participation and departure, Guillermo del Toro had been assigned to take over the management Justice League Dark Movie that should be titled Dark universe. Since then, Universal Pictures has used this moniker in their attempt to restart their classic monsters, so the film (should it ever be made) will likely bear the name Justice League Dark Title. Recently it was announced that HBO Max is developing a new one Constantine Series and that the potential show would be linked to Bad Robot Justice League Dark Universe.
