Swizz Beatz and Timbalands VERZUZ was taken over by Triller Network, the parent company of TikTok competitor Triller. VERZUZ grew in popularity over the past year, starting out as an Instagram Live series that established integrations with Apple Music and Twitter. The most recent live streaming event with D’Angelo broke away from the show’s established one-on-one battle format and was broadcast by the Apollo Theater.
Triller hit the headlines in February after Universal Music Group announced it was pulling its catalog from the short-form video app. UMG claimed at the time that Triller “shamefully withheld payments to our artists”.
