What Synchronic lacks in the directors of scale Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, makes up for content.

Synchronic is really just an all-round intelligently made film. As well as demonstrating their ability to cast well and make a cool sci-fi story, Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead create something that feels big in a small package (in the spirit of When We Talk About Time Travel, we call it it’s “Tardis Filmmaking.” It’s a big-idea feature, and although a limited budget can sometimes make projects out of reach because they don’t have the resources to fully understand the most interesting elements of their core concepts exploring, that’s not the case here. Instead, there’s elegance in adapting to constraints, with simple but effective stylistic flourishes – like tricky nonlinear edits and dissolving environments when time travel begins – that add all the crucial production value.
