James Gunns The suicide squad is now playing in theaters and streaming on HBO Max and it’s a dandy! The action, the characters, the drama, the black humor … it all worked to perfection to create one of the wildest movies you will ever see.
Gunn was Gunn, there were some shocking moments mostly related to who lived and who died. Though the film never quite lives up to its hyped “Anyone Can Die” mantra by sparing the more, uh, notable squad members like Harley Quinn and Bloodsport *, there were still many surprising deaths in the more than two-hour film .
Here are the five The suicide squad We found deaths to be the most shocking.
Michael Rooker’s Savant was pretty prominent in The suicide squad Commercial blitz, so it was a bit, um, biting the dust off such an interesting character in the first 15 minutes. Especially since Gunn literally opens the film on his mug!

Even more surprising is the way Savant dies – not in a glow of fame, but screaming in fear as he flees the hellish scene on the beach and endures death at Amanda Waller’s red button.
A carryover from David Ayers 2016 Suicide squad, Jai Courtney’s Captain Boomerang has never had the same level of success as its comic book counterpart and is quickly out in the process The suicide squad Pre-credits action scene – a death that felt more like a warning shot aimed at Harley Quinn’s vulnerability than anything else.
Polka dot man
This one stung. During the climax, the surviving members of the Suicide Squad must fight Starro the Conqueror, a giant starfish, before it defeats the American island nation of Corto Maltese. Polka-Dot Man is instructed by Bloodsport to imagine the big bad as his insane mother, and the bad guy uses his “flamboyant powers” to great effect before being crushed by one of Starro’s huge arms. You really feel for the guy because of everyone on the team he has the most tragic backstory, considering that he never wanted his powers; and so you will find yourself strong for Polka-Dot Man’s survival, but alas, Gunn had other ideas.
This is kind of a scam as Peacemaker (and Weasel) didn’t actually die, but technically, John Cena’s super-violent peacekeeper bites the dust a lot as part of the film – so much so that you wonder how he managed to survive. Anyway, when Peacemaker “bites the dust” in a shootout with Bloodsport after he revealed his true colors, I was quite stunned because I didn’t really think Gunn had the cajons to kill any of the movie’s more marketable entrants. Turns out I was right, but still …

After all, Rick Flag’s death was less shocking than depressing. As the only real good guy on the team, the man certainly didn’t deserve to be so cruel in the hands of Peacemaker – even if you could see his death about a mile away. Like Boomerang, you never really got to know Rick Flag, and that makes his relatively quick exit (despite Joel Kinnaman’s five years in the role) a bit of a shame.
* I’m actually good at not killing Harley or Bloodsport because Margot Robbie and Idris Elba absolutely hit the characters The suicide squad. I’m excited to see where the franchise takes them next.
