From the propaganda comics of WWII to the breakthrough of underground comics in New York and San Francisco in the 1960s to today’s graphic novels Bad attitude is a compelling story of comics and a rousing call to art and activism. With a list of friends and family Bad attitude delves deep into Spanish life with insights from comic book greats R. Crumb, Art Spiegelman, Trina Robbins, Aline Kominsky-Crumb and Ed Piskor, and shows animations by Spain’s daughter, New York based artist Nora Rodriguez.
“Bad attitude is a love letter to my art and living partner, Spain Rodriguez, but it’s also a love letter to all activists, especially artist activists, ”said director Susan Stern, also Rodriguez’s Emmy-nominated wife, in a statement. “I hope Bad attitude creates a space for conversation about the art and social justice we want to create, the ways we fail and how we can be forgiven. ”
