While talking to Collider, cinematographer Henry Braham called The Lightning a “complex” movie that he hopes won’t be just a simple superhero movie.
“[The Flash is] goes great. I mean, it’s a complex film and it’s a fantastic concept to involve the generations of these types of comics, ”said Braham. “It’s not really a comic film here either. It’s not based on reality, but it’s a lot more technically complex – I think all filmmakers are genuinely interested in that the technical complexity of storytelling doesn’t get in the way of high quality filmmaking. Hopefully it will never come across as a superhero movie. It’s going to come across like a movie, and it is. I think this is how things have to go. We have to make great, great, great films that happen to have superheroes who have honest characters behind them with all the character flaws that we find in humanity. “
Braham also went into the scope of the film, noting that it was great to be able to work on a film with such a big vision while working with some great acting legends like Michael Keaton. “The cast is a pleasure to work with as they are fantastic,” said Braham. “Michael is a genius, of course, and it’s wonderful to see him recreate that role in this day and age. It is wonderful. I think the film is huge and I am fortunate enough to be able to work on films that I would love to see. I’m not really into comic book movies. I’m interested in films that take me on a journey, an emotional journey and a visual journey. “
The Lightning Film sees Ezra Miller re-performing his role as DCEU’s Scarlet Speedster / Barry Allen, whom he first appeared in Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League, and Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Ron Livingston, a Golden Globe nominee, is slated to replace Billy Crudup as Henry Allen. Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck have been confirmed to repeat their respective versions of Bruce Wayne / Batman for the film.
