Topaz Jones has announced his next album. Don’t Go Tellin ‘Your Momma follows the New Jersey rapper’s 2016 album Arcade. The new album has not yet been released, but is accompanied by a short film of the same name, written and directed by Jones together with the creative duo Rubberband. Today (February 5th) Jones shared the lead single “Herringbone” which you can hear below.
“Herringbone” is Jones’ first new piece of music in three years. The single is produced by Jones, Jack Hallenbeck and Alissia Benveniste. Don’t Go Tellin ‘Your Momma was recorded live in the Pocono Mountains with an expanded cast of staff and musicians. Of Don’t Go Tellin ‘Your Momma – film and album – Jones said in a press release:
The film is everything that I couldn’t say in notes. The music is all that I couldn’t write in words, although there are lyrics that speak to it, but emotionally it’s all that I couldn’t necessarily write down and the film is all that I couldn’t put in songs. On my own, it’s the most enjoyable and fulfilling experience I’ve had as an artist.
Don’t Go Tellin ‘Your Momma was recently shown at Sundance and won the Short Film Jury Award: Nonfiction. Check out a trailer for the short film below.
