Black Belt Eagle Scout performed a cover of Grouper’s “Heavy Water” for Sounds of Savings’ ongoing series “Song That Found Me At The Right Time”. The series previously starred Sharon Van Etten and Madison McFerrin. The entry of Black Belt Eagle Scout is done in collaboration with the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.
In the video for her cover, Black Belt Eagle Scout describes her experiences with therapy. “It’s something that has helped me tremendously in my life,” she says. Black Belt Eagle Scout added in a statement:
Sharing a message of mental health support and suicide prevention saves lives. The suicide rate in indigenous / indigenous communities is high and so it is very important to be able to speak up specifically for my community. There have been many times in my life that I needed this ray of sunshine that came over the mountains on a stormy day. Fortunately, I’ve been blessed with support systems that have kept me alive, and I’ve seen firsthand the importance of these. I want to be able to spread this awareness so more people can see this ray of sun like I did.
In addition, Black Belt Eagle Scout said, “Listening to this song has often helped me sing through my emotions and find calm and reassurance, just like the sound of the song.” See below; Black Belt Eagle Scout begins their cover at the 5:51 mark.
