The Guardian reported that Twitter has confirmed that it has listed a fake Cormac McCarthy account labeled “CormacMcCrthy,” the blue check mark designed to authenticate a public interest account. McCarthy, author of The Road, No Country for Old Men, and other works, including plays, is considered withdrawn. The fake account was able to be verified without the usual requirement of uploading a valid ID or proving that an official website is linked to the account.
