Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar. was directed by Josh Greenbaum (New girl, become Bond) from a script by Wiig and Mumolo. Jessica Elbaum’s female production company Gloria Sanchez Productions co-produced the project with Wiig and Mumolo along with Will Ferrell, Adam McKay and Margot Hand.

This film was the second collaboration between Wiig and Mumolo, who had previously worked together on the award-winning comedy film Bridesmaids It featured Maya Rudolph, Wiig, Melissa McCarthy and Rose Byrne.
