Warner Bros. is moving In The Heights by a week

Shortly after two new trailers for the film adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s acclaimed Broadway musical were released, Warner Bros. announced the release In the heights hits the audience even earlier as it rises a week from its original June 18th release!

Originally slated for 2020 and June 18, the film will now debut in theaters and on HBO Max on June 11. The final release date was to pit the film against the latest animated film from Disney-Pixar LucaHowever, with its new release date, it is well ahead of the family-friendly adventure and the other WB title The incantation: The devil made me do it.

Warner Bros. ‘ forthcoming In the heights is based on Lin-Manuel Miranda’s award-winning Broadway musical of the same name. Beside Miranda the film plays Anthony Ramos (Hamilton, A star Is Born), Corey Hawkins (Just Outta Compton) and Golden Globe winner Jimmy Smits (NYPD blue) who will play the roles of Usnavi de la Vega, Benny and Kevin. Broadway star Daphne Rubin-Vega, Brooklyn nine-nine ‘s Stephanie Beatriz and Orange is the new black Dascha Polanco will also play the lead role.

In the heights takes place in Washington Heights, New York City and focuses on a bodega owner who closes his business and moves to the Dominican Republic after inheriting his grandmother’s fortune. The musical was awarded the Tony Award for best musical in 2008.

Jon M. Chu (Crazy rich Asians) directed the adaptation of a script by Quiara AlegrĂ­a Hudes (Hamilton), with Miranda, who starred in the Broadway musical and wrote the music and lyrics, and who also produced alongside Anthony Bregman, Mara Jacobs and Scott Sanders.
