Emily Blunt and Jamie Dornan are a strange, sometimes electric, pairing.

Before we get to the performances that worked at Wild Mountain Thyme, we need to talk about the garish New Yorker in the room. As mentioned earlier, Christopher Walken plays Jamie Dornan’s father, Anthony, and their relationship is believed to give the film a certain soul. Walken really is a legend, and most of the movies I’ve seen with him (even if he’s in the background) usually end with great praise. In the case of Wild Mountain Thyme, its presence is confusing. He’s not really trying to put the Irish accent, although everyone else in the cast really wants it, and it just takes off from that fairytale escape that the film is aiming for. And when it comes to a teary-eyed moment between Walken and Dornan, it’s so strange to see him fall so flat. There are some nice moments between Walken and the cast, and there’s a solid effort, but there also happens a strange anomaly where the talent just isn’t enough to give this movie the kick it needs to get there .
