Dilla’s Delights – the Detroit donut store opened by J Dilla’s uncle Herman Hayes in honor of his late nephew – has closed its only location for good, the Detroit Metro Times notes. Originally opened in 2016, the store had to close for much of 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In an IGTV video, Hayes announced that he plans to reopen the store in a new location. “We don’t know exactly which direction we’re going or where we’re going to be, but we’re working on some things,” he once said. “We’ll definitely keep donuts and Dilla’s legacy alive.” Find his message below.

Widely regarded as his work, J Dillas Donuts were released three days before the influential producer’s death in 2006. Later that year, his 2001 solo album Welcome 2 Detroit will be reissued to celebrate its 20th anniversary.
